May 22, 2026: MBS College of Engineering and Technology organized an industrial visit to the Sitlee Water Treatment Plant for the second- and third-year students of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering departments.
The Educational tour was aimed to provide practical exposure to students regarding the functioning and operations of large-scale water treatment and distribution systems. The Sitli Water Treatment Plant, one of the major water treatment facilities in the Jammu region, was commissioned in 1979 and constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC). The plant has a treatment capacity of 19 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) and plays a significant role in supplying treated drinking water across the region.
During the visit, students observed various sections of the treatment plant including the intake units, sedimentation units, clariflocculation units, filtration systems, testing laboratories, and sump tanks. The plant sources raw water from the Tawi River through the right bank intake structure and subjects it to multiple stages of treatment before distribution.
The students were guided through the complete treatment process by Mr. Vishabnath Sharma, Supervisor and Mr. Vinod Kumar, Chemist at the plant. Both explained the technical and operational aspects of water purification, quality testing, filtration, and distribution systems. The interaction provided students with valuable practical insights into environmental engineering and public utility management. Mr. Satish Kumar Sharma and Mr. Ripu Daman Singh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Ms. Sana Wani, and Ms Ankita Singh, Assistant Professor from Department of Civil Engineering, MBSCET accompanied the students along the visit.
The industrial visit proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the students, helping them connect theoretical classroom learning with real industrial practices. The students and faculty members expressed their gratitude to the officials and staff of the Sitlee Water Treatment Plant for their support and cooperation in making the visit successful.
