Department of Computer science and Engineering of MBSCET, Jammu Organised three-days workshop on “Data Science with Python” for 5th and 7th Semester students.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Amrik Singh, Principal in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh, Administrator, Prof. Praveen Singh, Vice Principal/DAA, Ms. Jasmeen Kour, HOD CSE, and other faculty members of the CSE Department. The resource person Mr. Vivek Mahajan, Principal Consultant – Learning and Development, BBC IT Services, conducted the session for three days with hands-on exposure to essential tools and concepts in Data Science.
During the three days workshop, students gained practical experience in Data Science with Python that includes Matplotlib, SciPy, and Scikit-learn and covered data handling and analysis using Pandas, visualization and statistical concepts including working with Data Frames and CSV files. The sessions emphasised practical learning through demonstrations, coding exercises, and hands-on practice, enabling students to connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications
On the concluding day, Mr. Vivek Mahajan also guided students on accessing and effectively utilizing online courses for continuous learning and skill enhancement. To facilitate continued learning after the workshop, students were provided with workbooks and practice material for revision and further hands-on practice.
During the valedictory session, Prof. (Dr.) Amrik Singh, appreciated the efforts of the resource person and CSE Department for providing students with practical exposure. He encouraged the students to remain consistent in learning, continuously upgrade their technical skills, and develop a clear career pathway with a strong focus on employability and placement opportunities. Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh, appreciated the initiative and motivated the students to actively participate in such professional learning programmes, highlighting the importance of practical exposure and continuous skill upgradation in today’s competitive technological environment. Prof. Parveen Singh, encouraged the students to translate the knowledge acquired during the workshop into innovative project ideas and work towards their practical implementation.
The workshop successfully provided students with a strong foundation in Data Science, statistical analysis, data visualization, and machine learning tools, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and encouraging students to develop industry-relevant technical competencies.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Marvi Abrol Asst. Professor CSE Deptt. who expressed gratitude to the resource person, college administration, faculty members, and students for their active participation and contribution towards the successful conduct of the workshop.
